Assateague is an island off maryland state, between atlantic ocean to the east, and sinepuxant bay to the west. Aside from the unusually long drive, got stuck in rush hour traffic going over the bridge, a simple 3 hour tour became 6. Mental note, next time I go, I leave really really early. I was abit concerned on the drive over, the GPS power adapter broke, relied on the google app on my iphone till I macguyvered a usb solution using a spare mini usb cable, and the usb car adapter for my iphone. credos to ATT for thinking that through. I woulda been pinched. And, I forgot to bring money for the bay bridge toll. luckily, I fished out loose change out of my ashtray and bookbag..LOL I bet the lady wasnt happy the money smelled of smoke. Also, epic failure on the air mattress. I shouldve known, every time Ive ever used or bought one, has brought catastrophe and disappointment. looking at a self inflating air mat instead. lighter, smaller and much easier to use and maneuver, its going to replace the air mattress. Gear evaluation, the single burner hiking stove I bought @ craigslist for $10 worked great.. Amazed that it was 20+ years old, filled it with fuel, worked like seiko. the 2 man dome tent I brought with me was in great shape. I used it all the time when I would go fourwheeling up in mears, Mi. I just dusted off the tent, made sure no tears and then scotchguarded the whole thing before I went up. again, kept the dampness, fog and chill out. I was disappointed I didnt use my lantern, I was only there 3 days, 2 nights but, I thought for sure I wouldve fired it up. well next time. the 20+ sleeping bag worked just fine, rated at 30 degrees, it kept the chill and dampness out, If the mattress had held air, instead of leaking, I wouldve enjoyed a more restful sleep. eh.. its camping. camp evaluation. the campsite had suffered a lot of rain recently so my specific campsite was abit flooded. I was able to setup my tent, and drop cloth ok in decent wind and fairly high and dry area. Later more campers stopped by and we had shared the site. they got in pretty late on saturday, just for the day and today, so they got what was left. I liked that the facilities were pretty clean, bathroom and showers for a state park it was kept up really well. the other campers seemed pretty nice and very accommodating. the folks I went up with were very engaging and though they kept trying to include me in some events, I was content just reading on the beach. anyway, attached are a few of the pics from assateague. late in the summer, so not many folks there. and the wind picking up had enhanced the word *sandwich*. All things considered, a great place, family friendly, decent facilities and a nice place to visit. I plan on going back next year, when its warmer and I can stay longer.

Nice quiet back to nature area to camp. Right on the ocean. Wild horses roam the island. The nature center is helpful for lots of info about the island.
