PLEASE NOTE: Gulf is right across a sand dune from the campsites-short walk. Pets allowed, on leashes. Tents allowed. One bath house open, all new, also outside showers available. No on-site sewer, has double dump station. Has WiFi access - fairly fast. We spent 4 nights there at the end of May, 2009. Park was newly reopened (again), and in fair shape. The campground was open, the beach was open and in very decent shape, one bath house was closed, the fishing pier is still not there, and no access to the lagoon side. They are still waiting on contractors to finish up the day side. We fished right there in the surf and caught lots of speckled trout. Just wading out into the surf at tide changes, close to the jetties. Sites have paved pull throughs, some have grass, some sand, all have 1-3 new palm trees for shade. There was no designated fish cleaning station, since the lagoon area was closed. Hopefully that won't be much longer in reopening (they were waiting on water access there). Breeze was blowing constantly, kept it livable. Make sure you have sun screen, bug spray, and plenty of shade. We used market umbrellas on the picnic table, and a shade screen on our awning. There is 1 grocery store on the main drag, one gas station, public access to the beaches on the way (they were working on stretches of the beach - check ahead at the campground). There are several area marinas, a fishing pier on the old bridge coming onto the island that is open round the clock, several other campgrounds, but of the ones we saw, the State Park was much nicer (except for no sewer connection!). We enjoyed our stay, and look forward to going back.
