An average park that could be nicer if it were updated; lack of state funding is apparent. Level sites but trees are becoming potential hazard (dead or hanging limbs). Relatively close to I-80; good for a night stay. Probably would not stay again.

We went to Starved Rock and stayed in their camp ground, the sites were real nice and close, which is a good thing because when we go camping it's a group of almost 30 people, all family. What I liked about the camp site was that we could drive minutes to Illinois River and do some fishing as well. the hiking trails are a must, love the scenery from all the way up there. I recommened this place, take the family.

Starved Rock State Park is one of Illinois premier state parks. This park has 19 canyons in addition to the actual Starved Rock that the park is named after. Most of the canyons have flowing waterfalls during the season. The campground is very spacious by most state park standards. The park facilites are in good shape and well maintained. Near by is Matthiessen State Park. More canyons and hiking trails. White water rafting in the Vermillion River is also available.

A decent campgound. 2 loops, one with wooded sites. All sites have electric. You have to drive to the park itself, the campground is part of it, not in it. We went early in the season, from what I have heard, they fill up quick during the season without reservations. Lots of rain, a lot of the wooded sites flood. The sites themselves are REALLY close together, for the most part. There are a few here and there that aren't. There are 3 State Parks right close by there, I HIGHLY recommend Matthiessen for hiking. You can go into the canyons, which you can't do at Starved Rock. The raccoons are VERY friendly, so keep an eye on your stuff. They came into our site as soon as it was dark the scond night we were there, had to chase them away. Good place if you are more into going and doing other things, and just sleeping there. Filled up pretty quick on Friday night.
