2000Miler

As a 2000-Miler, I started my AT hie here. What a wonderful campground/park. The waterfall is great, and the campground is very nice. The lodge at the top is very nice, and is much nicer than many hotels I have been in. With this campground being only an hour north of Atlanta, I can't see driving past this campground to get to another. Check it out!

You MUST see this waterfall! It is outstanding! The campground is very nice too. There is a nature center at the bottom of the hill, along with the beginning of the Appalatian Trail, and a beautiful lodge at the top of the hill with a naturalist available on the weekends. Many sites come with a wall and ours came with a large field behind it for the kids to play in. It was the ADA site, but was a pull-thru and since I can't backin it was the perfect site for us.

Amicalola Falls State Park has something for everyone! We took our church family camp-out to Amicalola with 67 people and we all thoroughly enjoyed hiking, playing in the field, hiking the Falls, fishing in the pond at the base of the falls, wading in the creek, the Naturalist programs like Snakes Alive! and plain fun around the campsite circle! The camping section is a small circle so families are not far from each other. There is a large playing field, a pavillion for gathering, adequate restrooms, and recently improved and reinforced very large campsites, usually 30-40+ feet ideal for larger RV's and 2 Large tents. This park has several trails ranging from easy to strenuous so any hiker can enjoy their walk. It is also has the Lead-In trail for the Appalachian Trail. You can try your "Foot" (not hand) at backpacking! Len Foote Hike Inn is also an option. I hiked the 10 mile round trip in one day, but I do not recommend that! You will want to stay the night and enjoy the company, the food and the solitude of the Inn. The bunk style housing and "family" style meals are perfect for a get away. The 5 mile hike to the Inn is beautiful in the fall as the mist surrounds you during the early morning hours. This "permit only" trail is only used by Len Foote Hike Inn Campers. They even have an interpretive trail once you arrive to enjoy Georgia's Native Fauna and Flora. The Lodge is a perfect option if you are not a camper. The buffet food in the Lodge Restaurant is great and the staff is wonderful and very accommodating. The Parks system even posts if they have availability for the upcoming weekend for last minute trips! I highly recommend this park even if you can only spend the day! It is an easy 1 1/2 hour drive up 400 very close to the Atlanta area, but you feel as if you have left the city once you are there!
