Our favorite place to camp. Beautiful grounds, wonderful facilities, friendly staff and great trout fishing.

This is the place to relax and forget it all. If you can get a RV site on the river you are in heaven. The water is crystal clear and constantly flowing as you are just below the dam that creates electricity. the level of the river rises and receeds as needed. There is a mist coming off the river because it is so much cooler than the air. Althought the campsites are close you are not crowded. It is nice to just watch the many fishing boats drifting the river as well as the fly fishermen. They have a marina and boat launch as well as shore fishing and a dock. You can go just down the road to Gaston's resort and restaurant which is an attraction itself with hundreds of antique outboard motors and bicycles hanging from the ceiling and they also have a small zoo. You can book a fishing trip here with the many guides. They have their own airport and about 120 rooms to rent. if you need food or supplies then just across the dam (which you drive over) is the town of Bull Shoals and they have a nice new grocery store even though it is a don't blink your eyes size town. Also near here is Mountain Home which has a nice shopping section. To the south is Mountainview, Arkansas which has a Folk music center and everyone gathers in the town square at night to pick and sing. We were at Bull Shoals this year when they had the boy scout canoe race which is 135 miles long and starts at Bull Shoals. It was amazing to see 250 boy scouts and scout masters to come in just before dark and set up over 100 tents and set up a chow hall to feed everyone and then break camp before daybreak and start their canoe race 2 canoes at a time. We have camped at Bull Shoals before and left early in the morning for Branson,Mo.(100 miles one way) where we took in 2 shows and headed back at 10PM to arrive in camp about 12:30 am. We love this campground and also Mountainview,Ark where we stay in a private campground there.

We pulled in late one afternoon and found the most helpful Ranger I've met in a long time. Got us a spot under some trees for our tent and had a nice quiet evening. I'll say that the camping are is small and somewhat crowded feeling, but there were plenty of restroom/shower facilites which were clean and well maintained. I especially liked the easy boat/kayak/canoe access right on the river.
