Although located in the middle of Huntsville don't let its close proximity to the city fool ya. This park has tons of trails and some really cool rock formations. Take a hike to the natural well or ride one of the many bike trails. All the sites have plenty of room and the bathhouses are clean. There is a new disk golf course and the playground offer plenty for the kids to do. They have just renovated some of the cabins and they offer a good view of the valley. This is one of our favorite places to camp.

This an average place. The walk from the primitive tent sites to the bathhouse is long. No water is readily available at the tent sites and filling up at the bath house is not much fun. We have stayed here many times because it is very close to home and we have encountered loud parties more than once. The plus side is that the hiking trails are great. There is a larger playground in the park at the day use area that is new and pretty big. The rates seem to depend a lot on who is working.

When I called 4 days before our trip they would not allow me to make reservations, had to be 2 weeks prior. The person on the phone offered no information pertaining to the campsite, hours etc. We got there at 7pm there gate had closed at 5pm. The camp host was friendly and got us a site. Never saw the first ranger, that night there was a loud party until 2 am! The children's playground was a bit odd and old, no swings or slides and my granddaughter didn't like it. But we kept her well entertained at our site. There need to speed bumps in the park because very few people observed the 15mph. OH, and if you like to camp in your tent away from the RVs, know this the there are no facilities in the primitive camp sites, no bathhouse or even a water spigot. It was quite a hike to the bathhouse from the tent sites. we checked out other campgrounds while there, we'll probably use Red Stone Arsenal and definitely won't use the Space center's as they only allow rvs and no tents. I really doubt we will ever go back to Monte Sano, it just wasn't a good experience for us.
