Love this campground! However, it is way off the beaten path. Be sure to pack what you need. If you forget it, then you probably don't need it. I bought the t-shirt from the store that says "wheretheheckarewe" Cheaha State Park.

The oldest state park in Alabama. As we tend to camp during the week rather than weekends, the camp site was very quiet. Beautiful scenery, campsites had tall shaded areas. A previous camper had used the gravel area (where an RV should park) to build a camp fire and had tossed in un-burnable trash and glass. So we got to clean up that mess before we were able to pitch our tent. The shower house was being renovated, though in a cheap way by just replacing wood rather than doing a full remodel. Though it was warm and I didn't get to use them I thought the heaters in the shower houses were a nice touch. Overall we really liked this campground it was quiet and beautiful and the wild black rabbits were fun to watch - not sure if they are a native species or someone's pet let loose and multiplied - though they were large and every one was black.

Swimming in the pool and the beach, beautiful natural views, full hook-up, all at a great price! There is also a handicapped accessible mountain overlook that we loved! We had an issue with over-zealous campers during a big football weekend but it was promptly toned down by the ranger. We stayed in the lake campground twice. Will try the mountaintop next time. Definitely one of our favorites. Wish the restarant was better. Can't have it all!

Mountian Top Campground - Located on top of Cheaha Mountain this campground offers 43 full hook-up sites with two accessibile full service bath houses. All the Park amenities including restaraunt, picnic area, lodging and country store is within walking, hiking or driving distance. Cheaha Lake Campground - Located near Cheaha Lake this campground offers 30 full hook-up sites with a full service bathhouse. A three-mile drive takes guest to all the Park amenities including restaurant, picnic area, lodging and country store. We camped in the Upper campground with full hookup. This is a nice state park with pull-thru and back-in campsites in the upper campground. Although the area is really rocky all campsites were level. It is a good climb to get to this campground from the highway as it is the highest point in Alabama @ 2,407 feet. Be sure to map out the best road to this park as there are many narrow roads with low tree clearance. My GPS was useless once we left the highway. There are a restaurant and pool next to the Lodge that can be used by campers. Be sure and bring what you need as this is a rural area park with a small camping store that is only open during the day. The view and coolness were great and it was nice to enjoy a campfire at night. Although this campground is way out it fills up fast on the weekend as Birmingham is about an hours drive away. You should see deer and wild turkeys if you drive the roads around this park. The bathrooms were ok for a state park but could be modernized. This is a perfect park to get away from it all and the price was right. The campsites are roomy and many nature trails around. There is a lookout tower on top of the mountain that was built out of stone by the CCC. All in all this is a great park but way off the main road.
